Frequently Asked Questions
Everything parents, therapists, and teachers need to know about AAC and running MeroSwar offline on home tablets.
Will using AAC or picture cards stop my child from learning to speak naturally? Clinical
No, absolutely not. Decades of peer-reviewed clinical research (including the landmark Millar, Light & Schlosser meta-analysis and ASHA clinical guidelines) show that AAC does not hinder speech development. In fact, over 89% of children demonstrate increased natural vocalizations, word imitation, and speech emergence after starting AAC. AAC removes communication pressure and anxiety, pairs the visual concept with an immediate, consistent auditory model, and stimulates neural language pathways.
Is my child too young for AAC? Should we wait until they are older? Clinical
Never wait. Language development begins at birth. Clinical evidence shows AAC can and should be introduced as early as 12 to 18 months for children showing speech delay, apraxia, or autism. Waiting until ages 4 or 5 misses critical early neural language windows and causes intense behavioral frustration.
Does my child need to master picture matching or cognitive tests first? Clinical
No prerequisites are needed. There are zero cognitive, motor, or matching requirements to begin using AAC. Children learn language through immersion and modeling, not prerequisite tests. MeroSwar is designed so any child can tap a single icon to immediately express basic needs like water, food, bathroom, or pain.
How does MeroSwar help reduce tantrums and emotional meltdowns? Clinical
Most behavioral challenges in non-speaking children stem from the frustration of having thoughts and feelings but no tool to express them. When a child can tap a button in 1 second to say "I hurt", "Stop", "Too loud", or "I need a break", the urge to cry, bite, or meltdown diminishes dramatically.
Can MeroSwar be used alongside our child's Speech & Language Therapist (SLT)? Clinical
Yes, seamlessly. MeroSwar follows international SLT standards, using clinical Fitzgerald Key color-coding and high-frequency core vocabulary. Therapists can use MeroSwar during clinical sessions and prescribe it for home practice with zero learning curve for parents.
Does MeroSwar work completely offline without internet? General
Yes, 100%. Once installed, all picture cards, voices, and categories run entirely on the device without Wi-Fi or mobile data, supported by local device storage.
What devices and tablets are supported? Devices
MeroSwar runs smoothly on modern Android tablets and phones (Android 9+), Apple iPads and iPhones (iOS 14+), and desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari).
Can parents and caregivers add personalized cards and family photos? Content
Yes! In the Expanded Caregiver Tier, parents can upload personal family photos, familiar meals, and record custom spoken voice clips directly within the app.
Can my child choose their own speaking voice? Features
Yes. MeroSwar lets you select from clean voice personas (Boy, Girl, Woman, Man, System Default) with acoustic pitch and speed tuning to match your child's natural cadence — completely offline.
How does MeroSwar protect my child's conversational privacy? Privacy
We treat an AAC device as an extension of your child's body. What your child says stays 100% on their tablet. MeroSwar never records, uploads, or analyzes your child's spoken words on remote servers.
Can MeroSwar be used with physical accessibility switches or keyboards? Accessibility
Yes. MeroSwar supports standard single-switch and dual-switch interfaces, external keyboards, and screen readers with high-contrast visual focus rings and native Space/Enter activation for communicators with motor differences.
